The Overview of the SS Action Plan

The Ontario Ministry of Education's Student Success/Learning to 18 (SS/L18) Strategy is a broad, province-wide strategy designed to ensure that every student is provided with the tools to successfully complete their secondary education and reach their post-secondary goals, whether these goals involve apprenticeships, college, university, or the workplace. The Ministry has articulated five key goals for the SS/L18 Strategy:

1. Increase graduation rate and decrease drop-out rate;

2. Support a good outcome for all students;

3. Provide students with new and relevant learning opportunities;

4. Build on students' strengths and interests; and

5. Provide students with an effective elementary to secondary school transition.

In response to the SS/L18 Strategy, FFHS staff continue to work hard at helping our students succeed. The diagram below provides an overview of the 2013-2014 FFHS Student Success Action Plan. A variety of programs in five key areas have been developed, implemented, and supported by staff to improve student success. While the focus for the year is to improve success for grade 9 and 10 students, there are a number of initiatives planned that will benefit all students at FFHS. Some of these include credit rescue and recovery, tracking and monitoring grade 11 and 12 at risk students, technology coaching, and visits to First Nations communities.
